How "A Heart Like Ava" is helping

A Heart Like Ava has two primary goals: supporting Congenital Heart Defect Research, and helping families affected by CHD's.

Since November 2014, A Heart Like Ava has donated  $75,000 directly to the CHD research. Great strides are being made in creating new treatment options for CHD, and it is an honor for A Heart Like Ava to financially contribute to research. It is our hope that one day there will be a cure for these congenital heart defects, which claim the lives of thousands of babies every year.

AHLA helps families affected by CHD's in several ways. Our main family support project is our care package program. Since beginning our care package program, we have delivered more than 270 packages to Cincinnati Children's Hospital CICU for families that often have long hospital stays with their child.

In addition to our care package program, AHLA provides snacks for the families of a child undergoing their Glenn surgery. The Glenn procedure is typically the second of three open heart surgeries required for palliation of a single ventricle heart defect.  Our sweet Ava spent 22 hours in the operating room for what was supposed to be her Glenn surgery (complications due to the anatomy of her heart prevented the surgeon from completing the Glenn physiology in Ava). We understand that the last thing a parent wants to do when their child is in the operating room is leave the waiting room to eat and possibly miss an update. So with some very special help, AHLA has snacks and a gift card for lunch delivered directly to the family in the waiting room. AHLA has contributed several thousand dollars to this project.

AHLA also provides additional to support to CHD families by way of gas cards, meals cards, & monetary donations, as funds are available.

None of this could be done without YOUR support. We are so grateful for every one that has supported AHLA in any manner!
